TERRIBLE NEWS FROM HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL

Terrible news in Hillsborough County. As you read this, an effort is underway to privatize custodial staff in Hillsborough County schools. The district claims that this is a "cost saving" measure, however, it is being done on the backs of the hard working custodial staff in our schools and would save very little in funds. In fact, the money spent on buying out or transferring employees, as well as increased unemployment in healthcare costs down the road, may result in zero savings at all or end up costing the district MORE money. If this privatization effort is successful, our union sisters and brothers would see lower wages, less benefits, and possibly even the loss of their jobs. The private company taking over would send profits out of our community, and the economic impact on our communities could be devastating.
No good can come of this. We urge everyone residing in Hillsborough County to contact their school board member and tell them not to allow privatization. For more information, click here to visit the Hillsborough School Employees Federation website!
