STATEMENT OF THE GREEK COMMITTEE FOR INTERNATIONAL DETENTE & PEACE (EEDYE) ON THE US BOMBING IN SYRIA

The Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace (EEDYE) denounces and condemns the US bombing in Syria that costed dozens of lives.

These bombings consist a link in the long chain of conflicts and escalation of US, NATO and EU aggression against Iran, in the flammable region of the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, where huge economic interests collide in the framework of the generalized capitalist economic crisis.

The anti-imperialist, anti-war movement highlights the need to intensify the popular struggle against these developments, against the involvement of Greece in the imperialist plans, in the rivalries between the imperialist centers. We demand the Mutual Cooperation Defense Agreement between US and Greece to be canceled, to shut down the Souda base in Crete and all the Euro-Atlantic infrastructures!

NEITHER LAND - NOR WATER TO THE KILLERS OF THE PEOPLES!

SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF SYRIA!

U.S. Peace Council Strongly Condemns the Biden Administration's Illegal Bombing of Syria!

February 26, 2021

Only thirty-six days after taking office, President Biden took his first illegal foreign-policy action by ordering an air strike on the sovereign nation of Syria, killing more than a dozen Syrian citizens.

This air strike, a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, is falsely claimed to have been in response to an alleged rocket attack on U.S. troops by the so-called “Iranian-supported Syrian Militia.” But the facts point to quite a different motive. The real reason behind this act is to force Iran, by means of military action, into accepting to participate in a new round of Nuclear Deal negotiations on the basis of specific U.S. demands. We can only expect that such military actions will continue, and even intensify, so long as Iran refuses to submit to U.S. pressures.

What U.S. is asking from Iran is not limited to the nuclear issue. All U.S. administrations, from George W. Bush administration to the present, have been demanding from Iran to stop its resistance against U.S. imperialistic plans for total domination of the Middle East. The real issue is Iran’s policy of resistance and its ability to mobilize regional forces against U.S. and Israeli aggressions, and Biden’s actions are nothing but the continuation of the same imperialist policies of his predecessors for the Middle East.

We call upon all supporters of peace, justice, and international law to raise their voices against Biden Administration’s aggressive policies against Iran, as such policies are bound to lead to more war, death and destruction for the peoples of the Middle East, and waste of the American people’s much needed resources for solving their health and economic problems in the face of the COVD-19 pandemic.

We call upon Biden Administration to halt all U.S. military and economic wars against the peoples of the world.

Executive Committee
of the U.S. Peace Council

TELL THE NEW U.S. ADMINISTRATION TO END ECONOMIC SANCTIONS IN THE FACE OF THE GLOBAL COVID-19 PANDEMIC

We spoke to William Castillo, vice minister of anti-blockade policies, about the passage of an anti-blockade law. The sanctions policy is “increasing the suffocation of the people.” The United States and EU sanctions policy has two faces: direct sanctions against firms and people who trade with the Venezuelan government, and indirect sanctions that penalize those who do business with those who violate the direct sanctions. This latter has produced what is known as “overcompliance,” and it is a “kind of blackmail.” The anti-blockade law is “temporary,” and it seeks to shield those who do business with Venezuela from the United States and EU sanctions. “The anti-blockade law essentially aims to activate all the productive forces in the country—both public and private—to revive the economy. It is nonsense and demagogic to say that we have turned toward a privatization policy,” Castillo said, “when we are giving all sectors the capacity to break the blockade.”

Venezuela condemns new European Union sanctions

We ask you to begin a new era in U.S. relations with the world by lifting all U.S. economic sanctions.

U.S. economic sanctions impact one-third of the world’s population in 39 countries.

These sanctions block shipments and purchases of essential medicines, testing equipment, PPE, vaccines and even basic food.  Sanctions also cause chronic shortages of basic necessities, economic dislocation, chaotic hyperinflation, artificial famines, disease, and poverty, leading to tens of thousands of deaths. It is always the poorest and the weakest – infants, children, the chronically ill and the elderly – who suffer the worst impact of sanctions.

Sanctions are illegal. They are a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. They are a crime against humanity used, like military intervention, to topple popular governments and movements.

The United States uses its military and economic dominance to pressure governments, institutions and corporations to end all normal trade relations with targeted nations, lest they risk asset seizures and even military action.

The first step toward change must be an end to the U.S.’ policies of economic war. We urge you to end these illegal sanctions on all countries immediately and to reset the U.S.’ relations with the world.

How 5G Changes Everything: Astronomy, Human & Insect Impacts, and Crowded Orbits

Watch the latest video from the Global Network which focuses on the impacts of the 5G network, it's satellites, earth-based stations, antennas and military applications.
The video is produced by Will Griffin who is a GN board member and Iraq & Afghanistan war veteran.
See the video at https://youtu.be/tYUrUCc1rC8
80,000 satellites have been approved by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to be launched in the next 5-10 years, contributing to many already-existing concerns: space debris, ozone depletion, toxic launch pollution, radiation, environmental impacts to birds, bees, insects, humans and more.

Witness to Pau D’Arco Massacre Murdered in Brazil

In 2017, DoSantos Araujo survived an assault by security forces in the Pau D'Arco Municipality, where ten farmers occupying the land were killed.

United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders Mary Lawlor on Monday called for the murder of Fernando dos Santos Araujo not to go unpunished.

On Jan. 26, Dos Santos Araujo was found shot in the head at his home in the state of Para. Previously, on May 24, 2017, he survived an assault by security forces on the Santa Lucia farm in the Pau D'Arco Municipality, where ten farmers occupying the land were killed.

"The fact that yet another human rights defender has been killed in Para... shows a disturbing pattern of impunity," Lawlor lamented. She also recalled that the victim's lawyer Jose Vargas Sobrinho has also been threatened and has suffered a smear campaign for his work to bring justice.

"Even with constant threats and intimidation from local actors, both continued to speak out courageously on behalf of the survivors and to demand justice for the victims of the massacre," the UN rapporteur said.

"If this tragic murder goes unpunished, it would set a worrying precedent for the defense of human rights," she warned.

Although there had been some progress in the Pau D’Arco investigation, many questions remain unanswered. “The investigation into those responsible for the crime has not been completed and officers allegedly involved in the crime have been reinstated to their functions and remain active,” Lawlor said.

CUBA REJECTS YANKEE INTERFERENCE

by Pedro Martínez Pírez

The most recent US provocation against Cuba, in the final days of Donald Trump, uses the name of a saint, San Isidro, a neighborhood in the municipality of Old Havana, but instead had a massive and overwhelming response in the centennial Trillo Park of the municipality Centro Habana, where thousands of young revolutionaries denounced the interference of the United States government.

And there was the Cuban president, engineer Miguel Díaz-Canel, who asked theyoung organizers of the event, to reaffirm the decision of the Cuban government to reject the imperialist pretension to overthrow the Cuban Revolution.

The act of revolutionary reaffirmation was preceded by extensive information disclosed by the Cuban television that demonstrated the fallacy of the group that calls itself the San Isidro Movement, funded by the United States government, with proven participation of the Yankee Chargé d'Affaires in Havana, as well as statements by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the highly discredited OAS.

The subversive action financed by Washington was also denounced these days by Minister Bruno Rodriguez and other high officials of the Cuban Foreign Ministry. In his improvised words at the Trillo Park event, Díaz-Canel said that Trump's government and the anti-Cuban mafia in Miami that supports him dreamed of the overthrow of the Revolution before the end of his term, but they could not overthrow dignity and resistance of the Cuban people.

Diaz-Canel's presence on the spot, in the midst of the provocation that seeks to divide the Cuban society, recalled one of the actions of Commander Fidel Castro, who on the 5th of August 1994 dissolved with his presence and his word, a counterrevolutionarydemonstration in front of the Deauville Hotel in Havana, also encouraged by the United States government.

And searching in José Martí's work for a thought that would reflect the Yankee manipulation through social networks and money to certain young and antisocial Cubans who are have lent themselves to disavowing the patriotic symbols, they do wrong -the Cuban Apostle said- the young men who entertain themselves by biting into the virgin breast with the poisoned teeth of the Fatherland".

This is how the final days of a Yankee administration that refuses to recognize his defeat and to cease his interference in the internal affairs of his southern neighbor are spent.

Our military is up to something in South America

With withering poll numbers and a flip of control of the Senate ever more likely, Donald Trump may be preparing to end Radical Republican rule with one last big bang—a war in South America.

For over a year now, our country has been quietly building forces near Venezuela, a nation with a leftist regime that this country has long sought to upend. Just last month, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took a whirlwind three-day tour of Venezuela’s neighboring countries:

  • Colombia, which is supporting Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido; oil-rich Suriname
  • English-speaking Guyana, where the U.S. military has been active for more than a year and the U.S. has encouraged a new right-wing government
  • And, most interestingly, an airbase in Brazil’s Amazonian province of  Roraima, which borders Venezuela

Pompeo’s apparent objective: Get them to agree to an even greater U.S. military presence on their land and sea.

“The Trump administration and its Venezuelan and international allies have set the stage for an October surprise, a possible attack by the United States or one of its proxies designed to boost President Trump’s reelection,” wrote Leonardo Flores, a U.S. based anti-war activist from Venezuela, in September.

With less than a week before Election Day, there may not be time now for Trump to attempt to overthrow Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. But that doesn’t mean Trump wouldn’t make an effort post-election.

Guyana is thought to be the key to whatever plans the United States has for the area. Venezuela and Guyana have a long-standing border dispute over oil-rich lands.

Pompeo, who headed the CIA before assuming his current post, is a strong supporter of Guyana’s new president, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, a former cabinet minister who took office in August while under 19 indictments for fraud. The cases were dropped when he assumed the top government post.

There has been relatively little reporting in our country on developments in the region, although some U.S. organizations and the press in Venezuela, Guyana and elsewhere have provided plenty of dots to be connected:

  • Last year, we launched operation New Horizons in Guyana, which was billed as  ‘humanitarian’. The commander of the operation called it an “insurance policy” if a conflict breaks out in the region.
  • In early April, we began a massive deployment of warships and aircraft to the area—a doubling of U.S. military resources in the region.
  • Less than a month later, Trump issued an executive order mobilizing armed forces reservists for “anti-narcotics” operations in the Caribbean, specifically focusing on Venezuela, which is not a major source of drugs entering our country.
  • In late summer, the Brazilian Air Force and the Colombian military held joint military exercises in the region.
  • Also over the summer, the U.S. Army deployed 45-members of its elite Security Force Assistance Brigade to Colombia—the first time this special training and advising outfit had been sent to South America; its usual haunts are in the likes of Afghanistan and Africa.
  • In September, just after Pompeo’s visit, the United States and Guyanese governments announced joint military patrols on the Venezuelan border.
